ARTIST STATEMENT
These works function similarly to location photos in film, or in this case "location paintings."
The images suggest places of narrative happenings: in some cases points of departure, in others points
of transition or edits.
In July 2010, I exhibited the first installment of the series "Vague Longings," which traced
"a journey both imagined and autobiographical" through the Newfoundland landscape where I was living
at the time: a combination of fog, myth and emptiness.
In this second installment of works, "Vague Longings II," my intention was to present a "before" and
"after" to the previous works, in the manner of bookends. Consequently, these paintings, which draw
on a broad range of material done in various media over the last ten years, complete this imagined
and autobiographical journey.
